Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is concerned with the appearance of the teeth and improvement of a person's smile. It involves treating teeth that are chipped, discoloured, missing to reshaping your teeth, filling gaps and changing the length of teeth. Common methods include - bleaching, bonding, contouring, crowns, reshaping and veneers. Starting from slight changes to major repairs, your dental surgeon may carry out several processes to enhance your look, achieve a beautiful smile and boost your confidence.

Tooth whitening

Teeth whitening involves bleaching your teeth to make them lighter. It can't make your teeth brilliant white, but it can lighten the existing colour by several shades.

Professional bleaching is the most common form of tooth whitening. At Dr.Sushma Dental, we apply the whitening product to your teeth, using a specially made tray which fits into your mouth.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials.

Dental Crown

A dental crown, also called a cap, fits over and replaces the entire decayed or damaged tooth above the gum line, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns keep a weak tooth from breaking or hold a cracked tooth together; they can be used cosmetically to cover misshapen or severely discolored teeth. Crowns can be made from metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, resin, ceramic or zirconium.

Fillings (Bonding):

Composite Bonding is best described as the addition of tooth-coloured materials that can be applied to change the size, shape or colour of your teeth. Unlike dental veneers and crowns, composite bonding is done in one visit and the costs are lower when compared to other dental procedures. The benefit of composite bonding is that it is a conservative way for improving the appearance of your teeth. In other words, it involves minimal changes to your existing teeth.

The beauty of composite bonding is it is the least expensive and most conservative form of cosmetic dental procedures. It is extremely important to know that the filling material might chip or wear more easily than the lab-made restorations such as a dental crown or porcelain veneer. But they might become dull, get stain marks or wear down with time. It is advised to get your fillings polished, recontoured or replaced based on the extent of your aesthetic concerns.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays, also called indirect fillings, are made from gold, porcelain, or composite materials and fill decayed or damaged teeth. Dental fillings are molded into place during an office visit; however, inlays and onlays are created in a dental laboratory and bonded into place by your dentist. The filling is called an “inlay” when the material is bonded within the center of a tooth; it is called an “onlay” when the filling includes one or more points of the tooth or covers the biting surface. Inlays and onlays preserve as much healthy tooth as possible and are an alternative to crowns.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium replacement tooth roots inserted into the bone socket of the missing tooth. As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw and providing a foundation for a replacement tooth.
